Well, Welcome Person, if you are reading this then you are an Windows or MAC User., and you listened about this Linux OS word somewhere from your friends, relatives, colleagues or somewhere and want to know something about it.
Well In this post I am going to post my experience with Linux operating systems that i experienced with.
Well coming to the Basics what is Linux?
Linux is an operating system that is invented by Linus Torvalds in 1980s and went public (free of cost or Open source) in 1990. Well what is meant by this free?, yeah.. free means you can use the source code that is used to design Linux OS and derive new features or make new OS from it.
This process cannot be seen in Windows or Mac machines. If you tried to do this, then i think I can meet you in Prison that is located in your home town.
As a computer user you need to know that most of the operating systems are derived from UNIX kernel.
Come to think about it? what is kernel? well, search about it in a new tab and make a note somewhere in your notebook.
Linux also derived its functionalities from Unix but there some differences in them. and Linux is free to use (there are free Unix based OS's too).
Are you a Linux Beginner? and you want to learn Linux?
Everyone will say that Linux means using Terminal to get your works done.... ??
No, not at all. use can use Linux on various things.
you can find various open source applications that can give you complete control just like paid applications
for example for Adobe Photoshop there is GIMP photo editor (although you need to add some functionalities to make it run like Photoshop).
so, if you want to learn about kernel, then also you can use this. well the most important thing that you need to know why we need to use Linux. The answer is you will have complete control of your OS in Linux, but this can't be seen in Windows.
Like If you want to access a system file in Linux, you can do it as a super user (root user) and can change some functionalities to your OS, but this cannot be done in Windows or Mac.
Coming to different Linux OS's that are there.
basically they are divided into two different packages
1. Red Hat
2. Debian
The Red Hat Linuxes are mostly used in Enterprises
some of red hat derivaties are
CentOS, Red hat Enterprise Linux, fedora, etc.
Coming to debian there are these Ubuntu (derivatives to Ubuntu too),Mint, Damn Small Linux, etc..
well if you want to learn about Kernel (terminal) of Linux.
I want you to use tinycore, CentOS, ubuntu Server in Virtual Machine so that you can practise like anything in your windows or Mac machine.
Well there is another way to learn this. take a look at this. you need to perform some of the additional steps other than mentioned in this link.
I will notify you in my next update.
Please have a look and suggest me in comments.
